What is the Berg Balance Test?

The Berg Balance Test (BBS) is a clinical assessment tool used to measure balance and fall risk in adults. Developed in 1989, it consists of 14 simple tasks that evaluate static and dynamic balance abilities. Each task is scored from 0 (cannot perform) to 4 (normal performance), with a maximum total score of 56. Scores below 45 indicate increased fall risk. Widely used in geriatric care and physical therapy, it helps professionals assess functional balance, track progress, and plan rehabilitation interventions. The test takes about 15-20 minutes to administer and requires minimal equipment.
